If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know that Tim Wells is one of my favorite poets and one of my best friends. Given that, it shouldn't come as a surprise that I LOVE his new book Boys' Night Out In The Afternoon just published by London's Donut Press. Boys' Night is a collection of Tim's greatest hits from his long and storied career as an international performance poet. Tim packs so much stuff into his poems, and brings it all together so beautifully, it's hard to categorize him.
Among his pop culture obsessions are the actresses Karen Black, Betty Grable and Talullah Bankhead, P.B.R. and Ernest Hemingway. He also has a thing for grammar, war history, Reggae and girls, girls, girls.
Many of these obsessions collide such as in his classic piece,
"When the Water Risese, So Does the Boat"
It took him some time
But he managed
To sleep with a string of girls
All the punctuation
Of modern English grammar.
Mr. Wells is also the editor of the popular poetry 'zine Rising, now in it's 36th issue. I interviewed Tim on my old website motoroilqueen.com. You can check it out here. And the book is available on amazon.co.uk.
